American Eurocopter delivers four EC145s to OSF Aviation

February 12, 2012

OSF health care logoDallas, Texas – American Eurocopter is pleased to announce that OSF Aviation has taken delivery of four new EC145s as part of a fleet replacement program it initiated last fall. All four aircraft are being completed by Air Methods, with the first aircraft due to arrive at OSF Aviation in April. The new fleet is expected to be fully operational this summer.

OSF Aviation is a part of Peoria, Illinois-based OSF HealthCare and provides air medical support services to eight hospitals and their communities throughout OSF HealthCare’s Illinois service areas. The new EC145s will replace the fleet operated for OSF Saint Anthony Lifeline (Rockford, IL) and OSF Saint Francis Life Flight (Peoria, IL). Currently, this team of physicians, nurses, pilots and mechanics averages 2,200 patient transfers each year, making it the busiest aeromedical operation unit in the State of Illinois.

“OSF selected the EC145 because of its superb performance capabilities, enhanced safety features, and the roomy cabin,” said Brent Grady, Executive Director for OSF Aviation. “We often fly teams to other locations, as well as carry additional equipment such as isolettes and balloon pumps, so the additional space coupled with the aircraft’s range and extra power is important to us.

“Of course, safety of our passengers and crews is our number one priority,” Grady continued. “We are outfitting these aircraft with all the latest safety equipment, including night-vision goggles, Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS), and a Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS). The EC145 also offers us additional safety on the ground because of the high-set main and tail rotors.”

The EC145’s performance, versatility and range provide operators with multi-mission capabilities in a medium-class twin-engine helicopter. The safety features of the aircraft, along with the large cabin and rear-loading clamshell doors, have made it the helicopter of choice for a large number of EMS programs in the United States and worldwide.

OSF’s helicopters will be fully certified to operate with the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), which will allow pilots greater flexibility and further enhance safety. These aircraft will be the first WAAS-certified EC145s in service.

“We made sure that OSF selected the best aircraft on the market to replace their fleet,” said Treg Manning, American Eurocopter”s Vice President of Commercial Sales. “OSF’s team chose the EC145 and its combination of size, performance and advanced technologies are a great fit for their program and we look forward to a long relationship.”

“American Eurocopter has been great to work with,” added Grady. “We knew what was important to us, and they were very attentive to our needs. The new EC145s will be a great asset to our program and those we serve.”
